"Client’s husband is in hospital in a coma. He was sent ESA50. Client contacted DWP to explain situation and was asked to obtain letter from hospital confirming he is in a coma. Did so. Was told to send it to ATOS rather than local BDC. Did so. Husband has now received decision letter- yep, as he has failed to return the ESA50 without good cause and is therefore capable of work and no longer entitled to ESA…. "
It has been painful, re-engaging with the disability rights movement once more. This Bill returns to the commons tomorrow. I don't think there is much I can do now except pray about it.

Catch-22. Either you work while you're in a coma, or you're cut off, and should you die...well, I assume you're cut off. Do I have that right?
Yes, the benefit will now be suspended for 3 months whilst the appeal process takes place.
The commons has today chosen to completely ignore everything that was fought for in the Lords over the last few weeks and will now force the bill through its final stages. My disbelief is becoming despair. This bill is the single most retrograde step of legislation that I have witnessed. It's effects will be to entrench the social underclass born of the wanton greed and selfishness unleashed in this country by the Thatcher administration 30 years ago...but it will also add to it as those whose active participation in society is dpendent upon the benefits being removed, are excluded. My last shred of optimism as to living in a sentient and caring society is gone.
How can even a faceless, heartless bureaucracy deny a coma verified by the hospital?
I like the new template much better. The other nearly drove me mad, or I should say madder?
