To The Guardian

Sent a wee note to The Guardian this week, following the pronouncements of Cameron and Milliband last weekend, both attempting to garner the social conscience vote by insisting they are more caring than the other whilst shafting anyone dependent upon benefits.
They haven't selected it for publication so I though I'd share.

Sir,
Cameron's popular capitalism is indeed a political move prophesied by the Grand Old Man. (Socialism Belongs Here, 20th January) During a visit to All Souls (Oxford) in 1890, a young Fellow of the college, destined to become Bishop of Hereford and then Durham, asked Gladstone if socialism was ever likely to become a serious factor in English politics. He was perplexed by the response, "Mr.Henson, if ever socialism becomes a force in English politics it will be by the action of the Tory party."

yours...

More on Henson to come...
